Top 7 Unique Things to See and Do while in Miami

Top 7 Unique Things to See and Do while in Miami

Sure, Miami has skimpy bathing suits, white sand beaches, incredible shopping, dining and clubbing but why stop there? Travelers how frequent the tropical oasis will indulge in this post about the top 7 more unique, off the beaten path sights and sounds to take in while visiting Miami. So strap on your speedo, throw away your poolside mai-tai, and prepare to dive into the less traveled side…

1) The Coral Castle. The Coral Castle is truly a sight to be seen to be believed. Built by the eccentric Edward Leedskainin between 1923 and 1940, the Coral Castle is a collection of huge coral sculptures that Mr. Leedskainin used only small hand tools to create. Ed secretly carved over 1,100 tons, yes tons, of coral to finish his unique accomplishment. Much like the ancient pyramids, when taking in the sight, it’s hard not to think the creator had some sort of supernatural power to be able to make it.

2) The Oldest House in Miami. Why not? It was built in 1855 by William Wagner and served as the county’s sutler’s store near the original location of Fort Dallas. In 1979, the building was relocated (because we can’t just leave it where it was meant to be, right?) to Lummus Park, which is also the site of the relocated Barracks Building from Fort Dallas.

3) Everglades Airboat Ride. Hold on to those sunglasses. A trip to Miami is never complete until you ride across the Everglades, alligators and crush some marine life in your (chauffeur driven, of course) 100 horsepower Airboat. These machines are truly a marvel, the way they carve perfectly over the landscape and how efficiently they move humans across the Everglades. Joking aside, this is truly an experience that will give you lots to talk about while chilling back by the pool.
4) Jungle Island Miami. This is formerly Parrot Jungle Island, which opened back in 1936. It reopened in 2003 as Jungle Island Miami complete with a water park, slide and Jungle Theater. The park offers unique areas to see firsthand hundreds of animal species.

5) Venetian Pool. Dating back to 1924, this is truly one of the greatest pool experiences you will ever swim in. In the land of first class pools, this one takes the cake, even going so far as to be registered with the National Register of Historic Places. Underground Artesian wells feed the free form lagoon, shaded by 3 story Spanish Porticos that has both fountains and water falls. Kids and adults alike will marvel swimming in this clean, gorgeous body of water.

6) The Wolfsonian Museum. This museum features the strangest collections of objects from the modern world. Over 100,000 artifacts show how design and form shape our culture and our lives. The inside feels like a creepy old Victorian castle straight out of a horror film, but once acclimated; you’ll warm to the thousands of treasures you’ll come across.

7) Calle Ocho in Little Havana. 8th street in Little Havana is located right in the heart of Miami. Here, you will find culture and locals to boot. Take a stroll through Domino Park where the old timers come to meet and swap stories. Or walk with your head down over the Walk of Stars (similar to Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, but for Latin media stars.) Hungry? You won’t be. Not with the tens of tiny (and delicious) Cuban restaurants, cafés and nightclubs that hug the cozy boulevards. Little Havana is a definite must see for the visitor to Miami.

Top 5 Not-To-Miss Sights of Miami

Top 5 Not-To-Miss Sights of Miami

The Technicolor of Miami. Indeed, Miami is a colorful place. A blended high-octane margarita of southern culture, climate, sex appeal and fashion, the city has fast become the place to see and be seen south of the Carolina’s.

From the moment you disembark from the plane (in the busy, crowded airport) you may find yourself reeling from what exactly you should do first. Here’s a quick guide to the top 5 things to not miss while in Miami.

1) South Beach. It goes without saying that this stretch of white sandy beach with ultra-chic hotels and bars perched upon it is a must see. From the skimpy bathing suits to the blaring house music and infinity pools, South Beach is a sight to behold. There is never a dull moment in South Beach. With coffee shops, shopping, bars and nightlife, there’s always something to do. Be wary, this area alone can suck up all of your stay.

2) Little Havana. When you get the chance to pull yourself away from the bright lights and silky sand of South Beach, bust out a cigar and take a visit to Little Havana. Take in the sights and sounds of an area that was populated with Cubans fleeing Fidel over the last 4 decades. The area literally looks exactly like Cuba; from the architecture, the food and the ambiance.

3) Key Biscayne. Key Biscayne is the little stepsister to South Beach. Tourists rarely visit here and locals relish that fact. And for good reason. Take a day trip here, rent a jet ski or a small boat and power up and down the coast and the tiny inlets that make this area a true gem.

4) Everglades. When you fly into Miami, you fly over these 1.5 million acres of marshy swamp land infested with alligators, mosquitos and backland bars. What better place to fully experience Miami? Take an airboat ride through this area to be truly wowed by not only the best the Everglades has to offer, but the local lore you’ll learn from your colorful guide. No cocktail tastes better back on the beach after you survive a day in the ‘Glades.

5) Zoo Miami. This zoo is one of the best zoos in the nation, if not the world, the Zoo in Miami offers a colorful, fun place that many exotic animals call home. Where else in America can white tigers fit in so well?

Miami, Florida is a must see for any tourist. Hopefully this quick guide to the top 5 things not to miss in Miami helps build a few itineraries.

Jet Luxury Resorts Fills out the Setai Fifth Avenue

Jet Luxury Resorts Fills out the Setai Fifth Avenue

High-end Hotel Management Company adds all room types of the Setai Fifth Avenue in New York to its customers.

Jet Luxury Resorts, the premiere luxury Resort and Hotel Management Company, is proud to announce the addition of the full inventory at the Setai Fifth Avenue Hotel in Manhattan, NY. This dramatic rise in 5 star luxury increases the company’s New York footprint, joining the Trump SoHo and the St. Regis, and follows the addition of 6 four and five star properties this year alone. Recently, Jet Luxury Resorts added the Fontainebleau, the Gansevoort and the Mondrian Hotel in Miami, Florida to their rapidly expanding roster.

The Setai Fifth Avenue soars 60 stories above Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan just blocks away from the Empire State Building. The Setai has 157 guest rooms including 57 apartment suites and 184 condominiums that comprise the top half of the building from floor 31-60. Rooms are large in Manhattan’s terms, anywhere from 400 to 2,000 square feet.

The hotel boasts an on-site wine cellar, an 11,500 square foot spa which includes an ice cave and a Turkish style Hammam and a signature restaurant, Ai Fiori. The graceful beauty of The Setai Fifth Avenue is reflected in the quality of the materials selected to create its spaces; black oak and limestone flooring, luminous onyx surfaces, and walnut and fine stone accents. The sensory experience of The Setai Fifth Avenue attests to its status as a modern New York City landmark.

Located between 36th and 37th streets, The Setai Fifth Avenue shares the Avenue with The Guggenheim, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tiffany’s, Rockefeller Center, The New York Public Library, and The Empire State Building, all of which influence the inspired timelessness of The Setai Fifth Avenue's design and philosophy.

Jet Luxury Resorts, a high-end Resort Management Company favored by discerning business and leisure travelers who are attracted to the style and sophistication of its properties, is a perfect match for the Setai Fifth Avenue in New York. “We are very proud of our relationship with The Setai Fifth Avenue since the opening of the property,” states Richard Brosal, President of Jet Luxury Resorts. “We are delighted to add additional rooms of the ultimate in city luxury that we can provide our Jet Luxury guests.”
